Super Record, Dura Ace and SRAM Red all do exactly what they're supposed to do: they shift reliably for thousands of miles. I find that most component choices come down to a few simple questions:
1. How does it feel in your hand?
2. Do you like the shift action?
3. Do you want electric or mechanical?
Regardless of what people tell you, aside from what the current TDF champion rides, this is what I comes down to. Sure you can argue that weight is a factor and that SRAM is the lightest, but really, its a minimal difference.
I ride SRAM Red and love it because it works, the hood shape is the best of any out there (for my hands), it shifts with conviction and purpose (firm and solid), I like the double tap action (easy and efficient), I never have to adjust it, and I like mechanical shifting. For those reasons, I'll ride it into the ground and love it all the way.
