With tires, you can't have it all. Fast rolling, good in drypack, bomber in snow, stable in the mud, tough as nails, and under 500g. There simply isn't a tire that can excel at all of those categories. But, with the Specialized Fast Trak, you can get pretty darn close.
In the hot and dry summer, in the wet and muddy spring, or in the cold and snowy winter, the Specialized Fast Trak gets the job done well. I really have no complaints about this tire. None. For how fast it is, it handles mud like a champ. For how light it is (580g), it has awesome flat protection in the Control casing by Specialized. For how knobby it is, it rolls quickly and easily over smooth surfaces. And to top it off, it even seats easily when mounting up tubeless.
What more do you want in an all around tire? If you want something that will work in any conditions, this is your tire.
Dry or slightly wet conditions is where I would say it is completely at home and its "stronger" point, but all in all, I feel confident on it any time I ride. And I have put it through the test this season!
The tires you use for training and racing is a very personal thing. There are lots of good tires out there that grip the trail and provide protection. But in my experience, everyone seems to mix and match tires. At races you'll hear, "I like X brand on the rear and Y brand in the front." I'm always puzzled by this as it seems brands have their signature tire for XYZ conditions, but if it's ABC, you're out of luck.
That is exactly what I love about Specialized. You're always in luck. They've got a tire for every condition, and a few different casings if you need a different level of protection. If it's dusty and dry, the Renegade is super fast and can rail corners. In damp conditions the FastTrak is the go to with a little extra bite in the damp conditions. If it's out and out muddy, slap the Captain tires in and don't worry about traction. And if it gets gnarly with a lot of rocks, just put one of those tires on with Specialized's "Control" casing and you're protected.
I've loved running these tires. My favorite combo is a FastTrak up front and a Renegade in the rear. Those two coupled together really seems to be the best of all worlds, and it's an incredibly fast setup with low weight and rolling resistance. For all day races like NUE, this duo can't be beat.
Specialized has engineered and impressive lineup of tires for all riding conditions. And it's great to have the peace of mind that for any situation, you're covered by Specialized tires.
